JTC-SGBC Seminar 2026: Circular Strategies for a Future-Ready Built Environment

Circular strategies are gaining traction as the built environment seeks practical pathways to reduce carbon emissions, minimise waste, and improve resource efficiency. With Singapore committed to its Zero Waste Masterplan and net-zero emissions by 2050, the case for circularity has never been more urgent. By rethinking how materials are produced, used, and recovered, the industry can move towards a more resilient and future-ready built environment.

The annual JTC-SGBC Seminar 2026 brings together researchers and industry practitioners to explore emerging circular strategies and solutions to transform the construction value chain. Through four focused presentations, participants will gain insights into innovative approaches. This includes carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) to convert captured carbon dioxide and incineration residues into construction materials, and the upcycling of waste glass powder as a cement replacement in concrete. The session will also explore circular management of solar photovoltaic panels at end-of-life, as well as the concept of material passports and buildings as material banks to enable greater material recovery and reuse.
