Advisory to Lift Owners on Safe Management Measures in Lifts and Lift Lobbies

24/08/2020
With reference to the press release by the Ministry of Health (MOH) dated 21 August 2020, 1-metre safe distancing is no longer required in lifts.

In lieu of the removal of 1-metre safe distancing requirement in lifts, lift owners should implement the following stringent safe management measures:

  • Put up signage in prominent places to remind lift users of safe management measures when using lifts.
  • Continue to carry out regular lift inspection and maintenance.
  • If the lift operation can be controlled to bypass floors, enable such a function to bypass floors as soon as the lift is full, so that the duration of lift travel is as short as possible.
  • Clean and disinfect lifts and lift lobbies frequently, especially for high touch areas, according to NEA guidelines.
  • Provide hand sanitisers at lift lobbies and/or in lifts.
Lift users should still continue to observe safe distancing in lift lobbies.
